Savage Worlds works best with set-piece encounters, with lots of NPCs splitting their efforts among a few PCs as the PCs take them out. In addition to using the Chase and Dogfighting rules from SWADE for important fights, for most shorter encounters I would strongly recommend using Quick Encounter and Dramatic Tasks, or your game will turn into a slog. I don't recall if it it had Handling, but if not assign Handling based on what feels right for the vehicle - from 0 (agile starfighter) to -4 (lumbering freighter). Instead, I would look at Daring Tales of the Space Lanes (core rules free), and their ship supplement "Starships of the Galaxy " ($3 PDF). Combat slows down a lot at the values they are using for everything. After early playtesting with it, I found it way too crunchy and cumbersome - it didn't feel Savage to me - and can lead to some serious balance issues. Though I have it, after much consideration I did not use the Sci Fi Companion. I have run two sci fi games, one of them a direct conversion of FFG's Star Wars published adventures.
